Summary

A commission item is the basic piece of commission data that is used to calculate commissions in a commission run. During the commission data import at least one commission item is created for every row in the supplier commission data files.

The amount of detail that an item contains depends on the suppliers. Some suppliers break out every call detail to a separate row, some use a row for each sale, and some may even group sales to one rep and account into one row. This means the business definition of a commission item will vary.

Each commission item has a reference to one product, rep ID, rep, agency, account, customer, and supplier. It will likely have net billed and gross commission amounts. It may also have wholesale and contract value amounts. Each commission item may also contain a value for each custom item variable. During calculation RPM will record the agent commission and referral commission in each item.

Commission rules

The agent commission of item is calculated from the commission schedule, addendums, or account group rate. Referral commissions are calculated from any applicable agency referrals. The commission item may be adjusted directly with an item adjustment.

Security

Staff users

  • In commission reports
    • Viewing requires the "View commission items, adjustments" privilege
  • In processes management
    • Staff users will see the net billed of any item referenced in forms they are a participant of if they have the "Commissions section" privilege.

Agency managers

  • In commission reports
    • Agency managers may view commission items sold by reps in their agency.
    • They may view commission items that are paying their agency a referral commission if they have the "See full referral item details" Agent permissions.
  • In processes management
    • Agency managers will see the net billed of any item referenced in forms they are a participant of if the reference is not hidden.

Agency reps

  • In commission reports
    • An agency rep may view commission item they sold or were marked as sold from a split.

    • Agency reps will see the net billed of any item referenced in forms they are a participant of if the reference is not hidden.

Modules

  • The commission item requires the "Commissions" module.

Adding a commission item

There are two ways to add commission items:

  • Automatic. Commission items are created during the commission data import.
    • Best practice: This is the recommended way of creating commission items.
  • Manual. Commission items may be entered by clicking "Add an item manually" on the commission run page.
