Summary

Sometimes this error is the result of a timeout or network problem outside of our control. However, in some cases it happens often enough in the same place as to indicate a problem.

Investigation

Tom has done some investigating and found it may be linked to style sheets:

It seems to have something to do with the CSS files we are linking in on pages like ProjectTemplateEditStatus.aspx and EditFieldGroups.aspx. Sometimes if I repeat the <LINK> tags or make up a bogus tag, the problem goes away. Also if I stop using "class=" or "cssClass=" in the controls on the page, the problem goes away (but its not certain classes, its certain instances of certain classes).

So far, I have never found a case where removing all CSS LINKs didn't resolve the issue. One time I removed all the "class=" and "cssClass=" attributes from a page and this resolved the issue as well.

There are some guys online (http://www.ryangrant.net/archives/internet-explorer-cannot-open-the-internet-site-operation-aborted-google-map-api) who had a problem with adding Google maps to their pages and someone posted a fix for them. It looks to be a [JavaScript] issue.

Europa

In the current development version we have begun our overhaul of the client-side code. Hopefully this will fix whatever the problem is.
